POLAND -- A 5-year-old boy was killed in a Tuesday evening single-vehicle crash on Route 224 in Poland that the Ohio State Highway Patrol said it believes was drug related.
Neither the driver, a 61-year-old woman from New Castle, Pa., or the two children in the car were "properly restrained" an Ohio State Highway Patrol news release states.
Troopers are continuing to investigate the 5:14 p.m. crash that troopers said occurred near mile post 21, which is near Poland Way.
Rosemary Huddleston, 61, was traveling west on Route 224 in a GMC Terrain when the car went off the left side of the road, struck an embankment and a tree before coming to rest in a culvert, the release states.
Huddleston was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with serious injuries. A 4-month-old child was transported by Struthers Emergency Medical Services to St. Elizabeth's with minor injuries. The 5-year-old boy was taken by the Western Reserve Joint Fire District to St. Elizabeth's, where he died.
"Drug impairment was believed to be a factor in this crash," the news release states.
