YOUNGSTOWN -- Police went to the Southern Tavern on Glenwood Avenue at 9:24 p.m. Friday regarding a fight with a weapon and a man wearing a gray jumpsuit and gray sweatpants who was pulling out a firearm and brandishing it.
When officers arrived, they spotted a man at the entrance to the bar who matched the description given and was displaying it and arguing with another man. When he saw officers, he went inside.
Officers went inside and found the man near the rear door and took him outside. He was placed in a police cruiser as officers went inside the bar. An officer found two firearms in the trash can. Both were stolen, one from Youngstown and one from Cleveland, the police report states.
Officers were unable to get video from inside the bar, and the individual they questioned was released.
KING'S COURT
Meanwhile, at 1:42 a.m. Saturday, officers were patrolling in the area of the King's Court at 3229 South Ave., where there was a large crowd, as well as a juvenile party nearby. They saw three males, two of whom officers knew to be juveniles, and a man carrying a book bag. A long rifle appeared to be sticking out of the book bag.
As officers approached the three, they spoke with a boy, 15, who officers determined had a handgun in his pants pocket. He was detained.
An officer then tried to capture the boy with the rifle sticking out of the book bag, but he ran and got into a car heading toward Midlothian Boulevard. The car was traffic-stopped and an assault rifle was found in the car with the boy.
An 18-year-old man in the car also had a gun in his clothing. Both were arrested.
Another boy in the car was released to his aunt, and he was charged with a curfew violation.
