Man turns himself in on charge of assault
YOUNGSTOWN — Thomas J. Tubbs Jr., 61, will be arraigned today in Youngstown Municipal Court on a 3-year-old felonious assault charge.
The charge was filed against him June 21, 2023, after a woman was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with an eye swollen shut and her mouth bloody with missing teeth that a female with her told police Tubbs had caused May 29, 2023. The victim could not talk well because of her injuries, a Youngstown police report states.
The report states that Tubbs turned himself in at the Mahoning County jail Monday on a warrant for his arrest in the 2023 case. Tubbs will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m.
The 2023 police report states that an officer responded to the hospital and spoke with the victim in the emergency room. In addition to the eye and mouth injuries, her hand was covered in blood and appeared to be cut, the report states.
The victim could not talk well because of her injuries, but a woman with her told an officer that Tubbs, the father of the victim’s child, said Tubbs beat the other woman up at his Sunshine Avenue house on the East Side about 1 a.m. that day, the report states.
The other woman said she found the victim about 1 or 2 p.m. She said she asked Tubbs where the victim was, and Tubbs told her the victim was sleeping. But the other woman said she found her bruised and injured. The report stated that a similar incident occurred in July 2022.
The report noted that an officer tried to make contact with Tubbs at the Sunshine Avenue address, but the effort was not successful.
