JUNETEENTH ON THE MARCH IN YOUNGSTOWN

The new Youngstown High School cheerleading squad fronts Friday’s first Juneteenth legacy parade in downtown Youngstown, which kicked off Youngstown’s annual Juneteenth celebration. It was led by honorary grand marshal and community leader Rev. Lewis Macklin II, who pastors Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. There also was a drone show and fireworks later in the evening. The federal holiday commemorates the end of slavery June 19, 1865, when Union troops marched into Galveston Bay, Texas, before U.S. Army officials announced that more than 250,000 enslaved people in the state would be freed by executive decree.

Starting at $3.85/week.
