Woman accused of punching her sister
BOARDMAN — A woman is in jail after allegedly punching her sister.
Court records show that Solimar Barbosa Morales, 30, of Boardman, is due to appear in Mahoning County Boardman Court today to face arraignment for two counts of domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor.
A Boardman police report states that Morales was arrested around 9 p.m. Sunday. The arrest summary states that Morales lives at an address on Terrace Drive, but it is not clear if that is where the incident occurred.
The report states that the fight with her sister began when Morales insulted the home where she lives with her sister and another woman. Morales allegedly became irate when her sister told her to calm down, and threw bottled water in her sister’s face. When her sister laughed at her for it, Morales allegedly spit in her face twice, and then her sister pushed her away to prevent her from spitting on her again. At that point, the report states, Morales grabbed her sister by the hair and began punching her in the face.
The report states that another person tried to separate them, but Morales started hitting them too. Police observed bruises on both the sister and the other person. The third woman said the incident also occurred in the presence of Morales’s 1-year-old son.
The report states that while police were at the home, Morales kept calling one of the women, begging them not to press charges.
Another officer saw Morales walking along Market Street and detained her. The report states Morales told police she never attacked the third woman and only hit her sister in self-defense after being hit herself. The report states police did not observe any injuries to Morales. She told police she was upset because her two roommates are “watching her every move and she feels they are trying to control her.”
Court records show that Morales was charged in October 2024 for making threats of domestic violence, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. In December of that year, she pleaded guilty to an amended charge of disorderly conduct, also a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
She paid a fine and was sentenced to 30 days in jail with credit for half of it served and the other half suspended. She also was ordered to receive counseling and given 12 months probation. But she has been called back into court multiple times since for probation violations.
On April 28, a warrant was issued for her arrest for failure to appear for a hearing on one of those violations, court records show.
