Man ties up clerk at phone store, steals dozens of phones, cash
YOUNGSTOWN — The Total Wireless store, 3319 Mahoning Ave., was robbed of 25 to 30 cell phones at 7:11 p.m. Monday by a man who took an employee into the back room at gunpoint and tied him up with neckties.
A Youngstown police report states that when the officer got to the store, he spoke with an employee who said the suspect was wearing a black Nike jacket, gray sweatpants, a Los Angeles baseball cap and gloves.
He walked into the store asking about phones, then turned around and dug into his pants pocket, removed a handgun and moved the worker to the back room.
In addition to the necktie, the man also used some “fur, leopard-print ties.” He took the phones, about $6,000 in cash and a set of keys belonging to the victim to his gray 2013 Honda CR-V and fled in the car, the report states.
The report states that there is video of the first part of the robbery. But it did not show what happened in the back room. The necktie and cloth ties were taken as evidence.
