City police assist drug task force with investigation

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown police officers assisted the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force with the search of a home on Jacobs Road Friday that resulted in large amounts of drugs being confiscated.

Two Youngstown officers were requested to assist Friday evening.

During the search, officers took possession of eight large bags of suspected pressed fentanyl pills from an oven in the garage, a large “cellophane brick” of suspected fentanyl, a handgun, a bag containing currency in a toilet in the garage, a rifle in a bedroom closet, a large bag of suspected heroin in a cooler in the garage, a large bag of suspected cocaine and a digital scale in the garage.

The evidence was photographed, bagged and seized by members of the task force. No arrests were mentioned in the report.

GUNFIRE ON MCBRIDE

In other weekend incidents, Youngstown police were called to McBride Street on the East Side Saturday at 12:43 a.m. for gunfire. When officers arrived, they heard gunfire coming from Magnolia Avenue and then a second volley of gunfire coming from the same general location, a report states.

Officers moved to an empty field; they saw four men in the back of homes on McBride Street and heard more gunfire and saw a “muzzle flash.” Officers saw a man running into one of the homes on McBride. Two of the officers made contact with the home on McBride, and three named men came out and spoke with police officers, the report states. All three said they ran into the home after hearing the gunfire.

At another nearby address on McBride, officers found bullet shell casings in front of the back door.

The report stated that when there was gunfire at earlier times in the apartment complex — Victory Estates — residents had identified a specific apartment from which a resident had been shooting a gun. The bullet shell casings were logged into evidence.

OFFICER ASSAULTED

In a 12:17 a.m. Sunday incident, Youngstown police responded to Fifth and Fairgreen avenues on the North Side for a motor vehicle crash with entrapment. Officers saw a gold Honda Accord with heavy front-end damage. An officer positioned his cruiser to provide traffic control and saw a Mahoning County Sheriff’s deputy, later identified as a lieutenant, in uniform speaking to Tomiko Harvey, 50.

The officer had started to walk over to Harvey and the deputy and saw that the deputy was fighting with Harvey. Then Harvey pushed the lieutenant to the ground. Harvey then started to run away. The Youngstown officer deployed his stun gun twice before subduing Harvey and took Harvey into custody.

Harvey was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for evaluation. The report indicated that additional information on the assault would be contained in a sheriff’s office report, which The Vindicator requested Monday afternoon.

Harvey was arraigned Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court on a fourth-degree felony assault and misdemeanor obstructing official business and remained in the Mahoning County jail Monday afternoon.

Starting at $3.23/week.
