1 dead in Austintown shooting
Staff report
AUSTINTOWN — Police are investigating a man’s death after responding to a confusing scene at a local carwash.
A news release and police report issued Wednesday afternoon by Austintown police Chief Valorie Delmont states that multiple calls came in about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday about shots in the area of New Road and Laurie Drive, near the New Road Car Wash and the Golden Food Mart convenience store.
Dispatchers then told police that there may have been a car crash before a fight began, that two or three people were involved, one man was shot and another person was attempting CPR.
The report states that the first officers on scene continued emergency medical care until the man could be transported to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The report does not state whether the gunshot wound was the only injury or if he was also injured by a car crash.
The report states that another man and a woman were separated at the scene and questioned by detectives to determine how they were involved. Two children in one of the vehicles were turned over to a family member who arrived later.
The two vehicles involved were taken as evidence. The incident remains under investigation and Delmont’s statement says no additional information will be provided at this time.
