Youngstown man accused of strangling Warren woman

WARREN — A Youngstown man accused of striking and strangling a woman is set to have his case bound over to a Trumbull County Grand Jury.

Khrystian Collins, 32, pleaded not guilty to a charge of domestic violence in front of Warren Municipal Court Judge Patricia Knepp Monday morning. He also appeared on a charge of strangulation, a fourth-degree felony.

According to a Warren police report, officers were called to a South Feederle Drive apartment in response to a woman involved in a domestic violence situation, where they learned the man involved in the dispute was still in the apartment.

The report states the woman opened the door of the apartment for officers and they arrested Collins, noting a fresh scratch on his upper right arm near his shoulder. The woman told officers that she and Collins were at a bar together and came home to the apartment, but began arguing.

The report states that Collins grabbed the woman by the hair and began striking her in the face with a closed fist, and once she was on the ground, continued to strike her in the face and head.

Officers noted the woman had bald spots on her head and a red bump on the back side of her head, as well as a bloody lip.

The report states that, while the woman was still on the ground, Collins placed his legs on her chest and began choking her with his hands, squeezing while yelling “Die, [expletive],” the woman told officers.

The woman told officers she felt close to passing out and played dead until Collins let go and got off of her, according to the report. The woman said she began gasping for air and ran out of the apartment to escape from Collins, encountering an officer assisting on a traffic stop and reporting the assault, the report states.

Collins remained in jail as of Thursday night on a $10,000 bail for his strangulation charge.

Starting at $3.23/week.
