Man charged in 100 mph chase in Boardman
BOARDMAN — A man is due back in court Thursday after leading police on a high-speed chase that damaged two other vehicles late last week.
Court records show Guillermo Yariel Santos, 20, of Youngstown, made an initial appearance Tuesday in Mahoning County Boardman Court on one count of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony; hit-skip, a first-degree misdemeanor; and minor misdemeanor charges of driving on a cancelled license, reckless operation, speeding and failure to control. He pleaded not guilty to the misdmeanor counts and Boardman Area Court Judge Joseph Houser imposed a $5,000 cash bond.
The Boardman police report states that about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, police saw a black Audi S6 driving down U.S. Route 224 well in excess of the 40 mph speed limit, and attempted to pull him over near Chuck E Cheese. The report states it appeared he was going to stop, but then accelerated out of the parking lot there, headed eastbound.
The report states the vehicle struck two vehicles at the South Avenue intersection and continued on toward Interstate 680, driving at least 75 mph.
The pursuit continued on I-680 toward the Midlothian Boulevard exit at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The Audi turned off its lights and slowed considerably as it approached the Shirley Road exit.
The report states it turned left toward Indianola Avenue, but came to a stop near Taft Avenue after losing a tire.
The report states that, over the more than five miles traveled, the average speed was almost 76 mph and reached 105 miles mph.
Court records show that Santos also was charged with driving under suspension after being pulled over for failure to use a turn signal by the Ohio State Highway Patrol on April 2. In 2024, he pleaded guilty to speeding and in 2023 to running a red light, court records show.
