Bicycle tour throughout Columbiana County scheduled May 3
COLUMBIANA — Bicyclists from across the region will gather May 3 to celebrate spring by participating in a three-decade-long touring tradition.
The annual tour, known as Spring in Columbiana County, Ohio, (SICCO), originated in 1995. It is sponsored by the Out-Spokin’ Wheelmen bicycling club.
The event, in which all cyclists are invited to ride, will begin at 8 a.m. at Mirror Lake Pavilion in Firestone Park, 347 E. Park Ave., Columbiana.
The main cycling routes are 31- or 34-mile loops through small towns and scenic countryside, which include the Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail.
Participants will ride at their own paces over the marked, color-coded loops between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., with support vehicles available for riders needing assistance.
SICCO will take place rain or shine.
A snack stop will be at the rail station in historic downtown Lisbon.
After completing the 31- or 34-mile loop, riders will receive lunch.
New to SICCO this year is a chili cook-off, in which riders can vote for their favorite chili.
After lunch, participants can ride an additional 28-mile loop to achieve a total of up to 62 miles.
The fee is $30 for advance registration or $35 on the day of the event.
The ride fee includes the snack and lunch.
Helmets must be worn.
Riders may register online at outspokinwheelmen.com or in person 8 to 10 a.m. May 3 in Firestone Park.
