Arrest made in Austintown shooting

AUSTINTOWN — Township police have made an arrest in a Tuesday afternoon shooting.
A press release from the Austintown Police Department states that a man was shot on Mahoning Avenue near Howard Avenue at about 12:15 p.m. The release states that the suspect fled west on Mahoning Avenue but was quickly stopped by township police and arrested without incident. The release states the gun believed to have been used in the shooting was found on the suspect, a 36-year-old man from Texas, as yet unnamed. He is charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony.
The release states that the victim, a 33-year-old Austintown man, was taken to Mercy Health, where he was undergoing surgery and listed in critical condition as of 2:51 p.m. Tuesday when the release was issued. The shooting remains under investigation.
