Traffic signal projects coming to Trumbull in 2027

WARREN — The Trumbull County Engineer’s Office, in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation, proposes replacing or removing the existing traffic signals at 12 intersections along various routes in Howland, Bazetta, Warren, Brookfield and Weathersfield as part of a $1.5 million project to begin in summer 2027 and be completed by fall 2028.

Officials said at six of the intersections, the proposed project will replace existing traffic signals with new signals, improve signal phasing and implement other minor improvements.

At the remaining six intersections, the unwarranted signals will be completely removed and will become four-way stop-controlled intersections.

Officials said road closures and detours will not be needed to complete the project. During project construction, a minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction shall be maintained at all times, but temporary lane restrictions and/or short-term stoppages may be necessary.

Existing signals will be replaced with new signals at the following intersections:

• Warren Sharon Road and Bedford Road SE.

• North River Road and North Park Avenue.

• North River Road and Larchmont Avenue NE.

• Salt Springs Road and Niles Carver Road.

• Salt Springs Road and West Liberty Street.

• Salt Springs Road and Ohio Machinery Boulevard (Petro Travel Center drive entrance).

Existing unwarranted signals will be removed and will become four-way stop-controlled at the following intersections.

• Warren Sharon Road and Yankee Run Road/Brookfield Avenue.

• Larchmont Avenue NE and the eastbound state Route 5 entrance/exit ramp.

• Larchmont Avenue NE and the westbound state Route 5 entrance/exit ramp.

• Larchmont Avenue NE and the 7 17 Credit Union drive entrance.

• North River Road NE and the Aptiv parking lot drive entrance.

• Salt Springs Road and the Petro Travel Center truck lot drive entrance.

The following three of the unwarranted signals will be placed on flash mode following the conclusion of the comment period in April:

• Larchmont Avenue NE and the eastbound state Route 5 entrance/exit ramp.

• Larchmont Avenue NE and the westbound state Route 5 entrance/exit ramp.

• Larchmont Avenue NE and the 7 17 Credit Union drive entrance.

Environmental studies are ongoing; however, no impacts are anticipated.
