Struthers man indicted in traffic crash with injuries

YOUNGSTOWN — Donn Hinkle, 76, of Fifth Street, Struthers, was indicted Thursday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on charges of aggravated vehicular assault and two counts of OVI.

The charges stem from an Aug. 27 crash on state Route 7 in Beaver Township that injured Hinkle and at least one other person, according to Hinkle’s indictment, a Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office news release and an Ohio State Highway Patrol crash report. If convicted of the aggravated vehicular assault, Hinkle could get about three years in prison.

His blood alcohol level was measured at 0.198, which is more than twice the legal limit in Ohio to drive of .08.

The crash report states that the crash happened at 3 p.m. when Hinkle traveled south on Route 7 and tried to pass another vehicle by going left of center. His car sideswiped the car he was passing and then struck another car head-on that was approaching him northbound in the northbound lane.

Hinkle’s car spun out and then struck another car, which also was traveling north in the northbound lane, the report states.

Hinkle suffered suspected serious injuries as did Thomas Shipe, 55, of Boardman, the driver of the vehicle Hinkle hit head-on, the report states. A passenger in Shipe’s vehicle, a 16-year-old girl, suffered a possible injury.

The driver of the third vehicle did not suffer any apparent injuries, the report states, nor did the driver of the car Hinkle sideswiped, it states.

ROBBERY

Also indicted Thursday was April N. Holloway, 36, of East Judson Avenue, on two counts of robbery related to a Jan. 28 incident at the Family Dollar store at 2224 Market St. She was arrested the same day. If she is convicted, she could get several years in prison.

Youngstown police were called to the store at 1:55 p.m. for a robbery that had just occurred. Officers were told that the vehicle the suspects were in was at a business at Glenwood and Kenmore avenues on the South Side, a Youngstown police report states.

Officers went there and found the vehicle and questioned the two people in the vehicle — Holloway and a man. Money taken from both people was collected and logged into evidence, the report states. Both were taken to the Youngstown Police Department to speak with detectives. Holloway was later taken to the Mahoning County jail.
