WHAT: Board of education meeting Thursday

PRESENT: Katie Berdis, Fred Marcum, Harold Porter, Don Sherwood and Kim Smrek

The board:

● Approved an agreement with ACCESS for internet application services.

● Approved an agreement with the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities to provide educational services to certain students with disabilities.

● Approved an agreement with the governing board of the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio.

● Passed resolutions authorizing the filing of complaints against the valuation of commercial real estate properties owned by ATCRH Youngstown LLC, Mystery Machine LLC. RTRB LLC, and MDC Endeavour 1 LLC.

● Approved the Online Day Plan to deliver instruction online, allowing the district to make up the equivalent of up to three missed school days under permitted circumstances for the 2026-27 school year

● Accepted the following donations: $1,675 from Robert Senn Studios to Austintown Middle School; $245 from Austintown Choral Parents Club to Fitch Choir for medals; $1,868.35 from anonymous to Austintown Intermediate School; and $250 from Austintown Rotary Club to RDE Scholarships.

● Accepted the following resignations: Randy Hixenbaugh, OAPSE sweeper cleaner; Katie Dorsey, teacher; Mark D’Eramo, lead science teacher (grades 9-12); Carrie Whitehouse, nonteaching classified staff substitute; Daniel Horacek, teacher; and Heather Braunstein, teacher.

● Approved the following appointments: Heidi Chepke, paraprofessional-lunch/recess at Austintown Elementary School; and Kaylee Lazich, special education paraprofessional-child specific at Austintown Intermediate School.

● Approved the following transfers: Hattie Shank, child specific paraprofessional at AIS to special education paraprofessional at AMS; Lauren Ohl, from food service flex 3-hour position at AMS to District flex food service coordinator, restructured position; Jessica Mate, from food service 2.5-hour position at AMS to food service 3-hour position at AMS; Kaylee Myers, from food service 3.5-hour position at AMS to food service 3-hour morning position at AMS; and Sarah Tharp, from food service 3-hour position at Fitch to food service 3.5-hour position at AMS.

● Approved the following athletic supplemental positions: Kaitlyn White, girls assistant track coach; Daniel Corbett, athletic event staff; and Chase Crago, volunteer bowling coach.
