Woman charged with arson in Hillman Street fire
YOUNGSTOWN — Yvonne Howell, 68, was arraigned Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court on a charge of aggravated arson in a Hillman Street apartment fire Thursday evening.
When officers arrived in the 3500 block of Hillman for the 6:28 p.m. call, they met with Youngstown Fire Investigator Charles Hodge, who said Howell went to the apartment of a man and started a trash fire under his front door.
The man said he and Howell had argued all day prior to the fire. He also said that prior to the fire being lit, Howell was outside of his doorway “screaming at him.”
When the Youngstown Fire Department arrived at the apartment there was no fire, but they did see scorch marks on the doorway and burned trash, the report states.
A Youngstown police officer placed Howell under arrest and took her to the Mahoning County jail.
The charge is a second-degree felony, punishable by up to eight years in prison if she is convicted.
