Time capsule to be unearthed in Hubbard

HUBBARD — With eager minds looking for ways to celebrate the country’s 250th year of independence, one group plans to unearth the past this summer.

Councilwoman Robin Zambrini, D-2nd Ward, said earlier this week that she attended a planning meeting for America250-Ohio events at the Hubbard Public Library, where attendees spoke of a time capsule buried June 19, 1976.

“The library is planning this year, for the country’s 250th birthday, to dig up the time capsule and have a big celebration to see what’s in it,” Zambrini said. “Hopefully, everything in it is still in good shape.”

Zambrini said the event is tentatively planned for 10 a.m. to noon June 20.

“We’re thinking that the different organizations, once the library has their unveiling of what was in the time capsule, we’re trying to have a community event — we’re thinking possibly at the (football) stadium,” Zambrini said. “Trying to figure out if the stadium will be an appropriate place — if we’re allowed to use the stadium; it’s right behind the library.”

Zambrini said it would be nice if the community’s other entities could join with booths to create a community event.

More details are expected to follow as planning continues, she added.

As part of his mayor’s report, acting Mayor Mike Mogg said the mayor’s office has been “inundated” with phone calls from residents regarding their gas bills.

Mogg said the city has nothing to do with billing, and he read a notice acknowledging the higher gas bills from Enbridge Gas, coming from cold months.

“The city of Hubbard negotiated an aggregate pricing agreement with Major Energy at a fixed rate of 4.87 MCF for a two-year term,” Mogg said. “Residents can opt in and out of this program at any time.”

To sign up for the aggregate rate or speak to a Major Energy representative, Mogg said to contact 1-866-218-5768, extension 1204.

Starting at $3.23/week.
