WEATHERSFIELD — The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to replace approximately 1,636 feet of deteriorated concrete sidewalks along the east and west sides of state Route 46.

The $370,400 project, estimated to begin in the summer, will replace sidewalks starting from Stewart Street to Seaborn Street.

Sean Carpenter, an ODOT environmental specialist, said additional improvements proposed by the project include installation of rectangular rapid flashing beacons at the existing pedestrian crossing close to the state Route 46/Stewart Street intersection; driveway apron reconstruction; new concrete curb ramp installations to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act standards; traffic control sign replacements; and the application of new stop lines/crosswalk lines, as necessary throughout the project limits.

No right-of-way is anticipated for this project, he said.

ODOT officials said that during project construction, traffic will be maintained in both directions on state Route 46.

Road closures and detours are not proposed to construct the project. Lane restrictions/reductions shall not be permitted after normal working hours. Also, vehicle and pedestrian access shall be maintained to all residential and commercial properties except when a driveway must be closed for construction.

Officials said residents and property owners will be notified prior to the closure, and every effort shall be made to accommodate each resident and property owner’s need for access.

As part of the environmental process for the project, ODOT is seeking any comments the public regarding the project.

Issues the public may wish to comment on include, but are not limited to, the effect of the project on residents, businesses, the local economy, historic or cultural resources.
