Inmate stabbed at Northeast Ohio Correctional Center

YOUNGSTOWN — An inmate at the private Northeast Ohio Correctional Center, 2240 Hubbard Road on the East Side, was stabbed in his cell Tuesday morning, receiving multiple stab wounds.

The stabbing took place at 6:22 a.m. Tuesday. The inmate was discovered in his cell at 10:22 a.m. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment, a Youngstown police report states.

A Youngstown officer went to the prison after the police department was advised of the stabbing. The officer spoke with an employee of the prison who works in the investigations department, the report notes.

The prison investigator said video shows three inmates entering the inmate’s cell at 6:42 a.m. It shows what appears to be blood on the clothing of one of the three inmates after leaving the cell, the report states. The inmate with the blood on his clothing was seen changing his clothes in his assigned cell, the report adds.

Prison staff members were unable to locate the weapon or weapons used in the incident, the report states.
