Boardman man pleads guilty to sex charge
YOUNGSTOWN — Alexander M. Exline, 44, of Indianola Road in Boardman, pleaded guilty Friday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to two felony counts of gross sexual imposition and was sentenced to five years of probation.
He also was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
Gross sexual imposition is a fourth-degree felony. Exline could have gotten as much as 18 months in prison on each count. But through his plea agreement, Exline was not sentenced to any incarceration. Judge Anthony Donofrio presided over the case.
As a result of Exline’s two convictions, he is now a Tier 1 sex offender, requiring him to register his residence with the sheriff’s office in the place where he lives every year for 15 years.
Exline was indicted in January 2025 on two counts of rape and one count of attempted rape. But the rape charges were amended to gross sexual imposition, a much lower felony, and the attempted rape charge was dismissed in the plea agreement.
Exline’s indictment states that he committed the offenses Oct. 17, 2022.
On Feb. 5, Exline’s attorney, Nick Cerni, filed a notice of intent to use evidence that Cerni said he believed would be helpful to Exline’s case and argued that Exline should be allowed to present it at trial.
Prosecutors filed a motion Feb. 10, the same day as a pretrial in the case, arguing that the evidence Exline was proposing to use was not allowed because it violated the Rape Shield Statute.
