Bicyclist killed in hit-skip collision
WARREN TOWNSHIP — The Ohio State Highway Patrol Warren Post is investigating a Thursday morning fatal hit-skip crash that left a man riding a bicycle dead.
OSP reports that calls were made to Trumbull 911 after 11 a.m. Thursday of the fatal accident on Main Avenue Extension (Austintown Warren Road) near Burnett Street after a man and his bicycle were found lying on the side of the road after being hit by a vehicle.
OSP reports said the man is white and believed to be in his 30s, wearing black clothes and black shoes. He had no identification on him.
A release from the OSP indicates the man was traveling on a bicycle when he was hit by a white four-door mid-sized sedan or small SUV, forcing the bicyclist off the east side of the road.
The report indicates the driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the crash.
The OSP indicates that the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet or protective gear and died at the scene.
He was declared deceased at the scene by the Trumbull County coroner.
OSP officials indicate they are looking for the described vehicle with front-end damage.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
