2 Valley CEOs appointed to Fed council

The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland named two Mahoning Valley CEOs among the 33 new members appointed to its advisory councils Friday.

Dani Robbins, head of Lake to River Economic Development, and John Miles of Steelite International were chosen for the Cleveland Fed’s 16-member Shenango-Mahoning Valley council. Joining them is Michael Walton, CEO of Jamestown Coating Technologies, Jamestown, Pa.

“When I was asked to serve, it was an easy yes to a fantastic opportunity,” Robbins said in an email. “Serving on the Cleveland Fed’s advisory council allows me to ensure our region’s economic story– including the challenges our businesses face and the opportunities we’re creating — is heard at the highest levels.”

“It also reflects the credibility Lake to River has built as a trusted voice for economic development across our four-county region.”

Through its advisory councils, the Cleveland Fed engages with business, civic and community leaders to collect information on regional economic and business conditions. Advisory councils’ near-real time observations complement Cleveland Fed research. This allows the bank to get a better picture of economic conditions in the Fourth District, which includes Ohio, western Pennsylvania, eastern Kentucky, and West Virginia’s northern panhandle.

Beth Hammack, the Cleveland Fed’s president and CEO, said council members represent different industries and geographies.

“Each of them brings a unique, near-real-time perspective on how people who live and work in the district are experiencing the economy,” she said. “These insights are crucial to ensure I and my team at the Cleveland Fed understand what’s happening on the ground — before it shows up in the official data.

“This input from business and community leaders complements the hard data and informs the discussions I have with my colleagues on the Federal Open Market Committee.”

Other members of the council are Guy Coviello, president and CEO, Youngstown / Warren Regional Chamber; Rich Davis, chief financial officer, Ellwood Group; Corey Deible, chief financial officer, PJ Dick-Trumbull-Lindy Paving; John Demmler, president and CEO, 7 17 Credit Union; Gordon Edwards, chief financial officer and treasurer, Akron Children’s Hospital; David George, president and CEO, Joy Baking Group; Lew Kachulis, CEO, Synergy Comp; Joe Koch Jr., vice president, Joe Koch Construction Inc.; Frank Krieder, president, Northwest Region First National Bank;
