Tax-reform leader Thomas is seeking reelection to Ohio House

WARREN – State Rep. David Thomas, R-Jefferson, filed to run for a second term representing the 65th Ohio House District, which includes portions of Trumbull and Ashtabula counties.

Thomas, a former Ashtabula County auditor, is serving his first term in the Ohio House. Thomas served as the House Republican’s point man on property tax reform and is vice chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Of the seven bills sponsored by Thomas that were signed into law in 2025, five of them dealt with property tax reform. The five will save homeowners more than $3 billion over the next three years, change how millage is counted for school districts and permit county budget commissions to control levy amounts.

“I promised the voters my first term would be delivering on property tax reform, transparency and good customer service for taxpayers,” Thomas said. “We have delivered on each of these with strong results and want to continue this service to the people of the 65th District.”

Thomas introduced 35 bills so far during his first term in the House, which began Jan. 1, 2025.

The 65th District takes in large rural portions of Trumbull County as well as Girard, Liberty, Hubbard, McDonald and Vienna.

The district heavily leans in favor of Republicans. Democrats failed to field a candidate in the 2024 election against Thomas.

Thomas said: “I am running for reelection to keep achieving successes for our taxpayers in Ohio especially focusing on making life more affordable. This includes my goals for more tax reform legislation, decreasing government spending, pushing for needed improvements at the state and local levels for services and working on the things people actually want done, what is impacting their wallets that needs corrected.”

Thomas added: “It has been a blessing in my first year to be able to achieve for our residents what we have done, and I am looking forward to more successes because we are far from done on the needed improvements for our taxpayers.”

Thomas said his campaign raised more than $100,000 last year for his reelection.

Starting at $3.23/week.
