New York man accused of driving stolen car in Liberty
LIBERTY — A New York man is facing a charge after the township’s law enforcement camera system detected a stolen vehicle.
Eric Gladhill, 52, appeared Tuesday in Girard Municipal Court on a charge of receiving stolen property.
According to the police report, officers were notified by Flock Safety cameras of a stolen 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt with New York license plates around Belmont Avenue and Churchill Park. Officers located the unoccupied vehicle at the Super 8 motel on Belmont Avenue.
The report states hotel staff provided officers with information about the person who had arrived in the vehicle, identified as Gladhill.
The report states attempts to call Gladhill out of his room using the police cruiser’s PA system and knocking failed. In the meantime, an officer spoke with a police lieutenant from the Tonawanda City, New York, police department, who confirmed the Chevrolet was stolen and they were working on filing theft charges — along with several other charges — for the same incident.
Officers reviewed the hotel’s security footage, which showed the vehicle pulling into the motel’s parking lot and Gladhill entering the lobby. His appearance matched the description of a booking photo from a Tonawanda City police detective.
Running Gladhill’s information through LEADS showed an active warrant in Girard Municipal Court for a probation violation and a failure to appear warrant through the Warren Police Department on a DUI charge, according to the report.
Acting police Chief Ray Buhala said Wednesday that Gladhill was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service, who picked him up on his warrants the same day.
Gladhill is set to appear back in court for a preliminary hearing Jan. 7, according to court records. Bond was set at $15,000.
