Bond stays at $500K for man accused of shooting in Austintown
YOUNGSTOWN –The attorney for Mikklo I. Delgado, 23, of Youngstown, entered a not guilty plea for Delgado on Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to charges of attempted murder, felonious assault, aggravated robbery and improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation or school safety zone, all with a firearm specification, and tampering with evidence.
Magistrate Ross Smith, who works for Judge R. Scott Krichaum, presided over Delgado’s arraignment and ordered that Delgado’s $500,000 bond continue. Smith also issued a no contact order related to the victim in the case.
If Delgado would be convicted of the charges, he could get more than 30 years in prison. The charges stem from a Dec. 3 shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Austintown.
Austintown police said two victims were taken to the hospital after exchanging gunfire in the hallway of the apartment building at 1001 Compass West Drive. One victim was taken by ambulance in critical condition, and the other was taken by car and was listed as stable.
In October 2020, Delgado was charged in Youngstown with improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony. In February 2021, he pleaded guilty to that charge, and two associated misdemeanor charges were dropped. He was sentenced to six to 18 months of probation.
Delgado also has several misdemeanor convictions, mostly for drug- and traffic-related offenses.
The Dec. 3 shooting is the most recent violent crime at the apartment complex that has been the scene of several such crimes in recent years, including homicides in 2021 and 2023.
