YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. received a $483,000 federal grant that will provide three years of funding for the Glenwood Fresh Market.

The market, 2915 Glenwood Ave., provides year-round access to free fresh fruit, vegetables and other healthy food items to residents of Mahoning County who become members if they are in a household living under 130% of the federal poverty rate or are a SNAP recipient.

Ian Beniston, YNDC’s executive director, said the organization “is honored to receive this grant award that will strengthen the evidence-based approach the Glenwood Fresh Market provides to increase healthy eating and lifestyles of residents of the Mahoning Valley.”

The market has served more than 3,400 people since it began in 2022.

The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
