Weathersfield completes various projects in 2025
WEATHERSFIELD — The township was able to complete various projects in 2025, with many being funded by the state or other sources.
Township Administrator David Rouan said funding for road projects included a $900,000 Federal Highway Administration grant for paving work on Countyline Road and West Webb Road, an $800,000 Ohio Public Works Commission grant for Salt Springs and Niles Carver roads, and a $180,000 OPWC grant for improvements to Watson Marshall Road.
The township received $150,000 approved by the county commissioners for pickleball courts at the park off Route 46.
Rouan said the Mineral Ridge Historical Society secured $20,000 from the commissioners to be used for banners and signs at the park. The banners and signs showcase historical aspects of the township, such as the history of coal mining.
Rouan said funding also included a $70,000 Assistance to Firefighters grant for turnout gear and a “Go Green” grant for tire collection and paper shredding.
Trustee Chairman Steve Gerberry said the township was appreciative to secure the various funding for projects and improvements in the community.
Also at the December meeting, trustees remembered and honored Robert Thompson, who was a founding member of the Mineral Ridge Fire Association.
Thompson, who died Dec. 5 at age 102, also was a U.S. Marine Corps World War II veteran who fought in five major battles, earning him a Presidential Unit Citation.
