Two wounded in shooting at apartment community
AUSTINTOWN — One man is in critical condition and another also is in the hospital after a shooting Wednesday afternoon.
A news release from Austintown police Chief Valorie Delmont states that officers responded to 1001 Compass West Drive about 3 p.m. Wednesday. The release states that two men exchanged gunfire in the hallway of the building. One was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and is in critical condition. The other man went to the hospital in a car and is stable. The release states that the incident is under investigation and there is no present danger to the public.
The news release did not state who, if anyone, would be charged in the shooting.
The shooting is just the most recent in a string of violent events at the apartment complex.
In May, a man was shot in the leg during a dispute over a $40 marijuana sale. Isabella Repucci, 40, of Youngstown is charged with felonious assault, tampering with evidence, receiving stolen property, improper handling of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon in that case.
In January, Joseph Turner, 39, was charged with one felony count of burglary and one misdemeanor count of simple assault after police said he kicked in the door of his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and attacked her.
In April 2024, Joseph D. Stevens, 22, or Warren, was charged with one count each of felonious assault and strangulation — both felonies — and one count of domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor, after police said he stabbed a man in a dispute over a woman.
In September 2023, Ethan Richmond, 17 at the time, shot and killed Vincent Tarver, 22, and wounded a woman. In May, he was sentenced to 11 to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
In December 2023, Steve Green III was sentenced to life in prison for the October 2021 shooting death of Ashley Lockhart, the mother of his child. Lockhart was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when she was shot.
