Poland’s yearbook project receives a large donation
Artifacts from heyday of baby boom era also sought
POLAND — An ongoing project for the Poland Historical Society is the attempt to collect all the Poland Seminary High School “Pioneer” yearbooks.
The project picked up steam recently when a box of yearbooks was donated to the society.
“Someone donated several more current yearbooks from the 1980s and 1990s,” said PHS President Laurie Fox. “With recent donations, we have collected all 1990s books and several others to fill some gaps.”
Fox just donated the 1970-1973 yearbooks, but said there are still a lot more being sought.
“We still need: 1963, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1986, 1987, 2002-03-04-05-06-07-09, 2011 and every year from 2011 to current,” she said.
“I am not sure when Poland began publishing a yearbook, but I think we have those old ones prior to 1963.”
While the yearbook project will continue into 2026, another new project is just getting off the ground. The PHS is putting together a new display that will showcase “Baby Boomers” growing up. Fox said the display will feature memorabilia from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s.
“It is going to be a fun display, and we’re asking for items either donated or on loan,” Fox said.
“So far we have records, a record player, rotary dial phone, transistor radio, toys and books. We are hoping to get items related to growing up in Poland, but looking for items that represent our youthful years as well.”
She said the Baby Boomer project display is on hold until after the holidays.
Anyone with missing years of the Poland Seminary High School Pioneer yearbooks, or items for the new Baby Boomers display can call the Poland Historical Society at 330-536-6877 to set up a dropoff time.
