WEATHERSFIELD — A Niles man was killed in a head-on collision late Christmas Eve near the intersection of Niles Carver and Salt Springs roads, according to the Warren post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Jonathan Stapleton, 31, of Niles, was traveling west on Salt Springs Road around 10:25 p.m. Wednesday in a 2003 Saturn Ion when he drove left of center and struck a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox being driven east by Elly Wright, 19, also of Niles.

The patrol report states Stapleton struck Wright’s vehicle head-on.

Wright was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Stapleton died at the scene, the patrol report states.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

It is Trumbull County’s 21st fatal crash of 2025, according to the OSHP.
