Device found in car suggests South Side arson, police say

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — A car was apparently lit on fire with a Molotov-cocktail type of device on East Warren Avenue on the South Side Monday night.

A Youngstown police report states that officers were dispatched at 11:15 p.m. and found the Youngstown Fire Department tending to a vehicle fire involving a gray Chrysler 300.

The owner told police he or she was on the phone in the house when he or she heard a loud noise outside and saw smoke rising from the car’s interior.

After the fire was out, officers looked inside the car and saw a broken and burned wine bottle with a burned rag on the floor of the car’s front passenger area. The report guessed that the bottle was intended to be a Molotov cocktail.

The Youngstown Fire Department decided to have the vehicle “held” for arson investigative purposes.

Starting at $3.23/week.
