Youngstown woman arraigned in assault with ax
YOUNGSTOWN — Chardia L. Lightfoot, 35, was arraigned Wednesday in Youngstown Municipal Court on felonious assault in an ax assault Monday in Youngstown.
She remained in the Mahoning County jail Thursday morning in lieu of $25,000 bond.
She returns for a preliminary hearing 9:15 a.m. Wednesday. If she were convicted of felonious assault, Lightfoot could get up to eight years in prison.
A Youngstown police report states that officers went to Ellenwood Avenue on the South Side for a fight and spoke with a person who said Lightfoot had been staying with him and assaulted him.
He said Lightfoot was outside in her car, but an officer saw that she was not in her car but found her hiding in the woods next to the garage. She was detained.
The victim said Lightfoot had used drugs and attacked him with an ax and a glass vase.
He had injuries to his face, nose and forehead.
Ambu-lance personnel were sent to the scene, but the man refused to be transported to the hospital, the report states.
The victim appeared to be intoxicated and could not tell officers exactly when the altercation occurred, the report notes.
Lightfoot was asked why she hid in the woods, and she said it was because she was afraid. She told officers the man attacked her, and she beat the man with the ax in self-defense.
Lightfoot had no visible injuries but had blood stains on her jeans, the report notes. She was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
The ax was recovered from the scene and it had blood on the handle, the report states.
The report did not indicate whether the cutting part of the ax was used against the victim.
