Police called to East Side sports bar early Saturday and Sunday

YOUNGSTOWN — Levels Sports Bar & Grill, 2139 Hubbard Road on the East Side, was the subject of two incidents over the weekend, one involving gunfire and the other involving a crowd that appeared to be too large for its building capacity, two police reports state.

Officers were called there at 4:09 a.m. Saturday for fights and large crowds, and saw cars double-parked on nearby Avon Street, throughout the bar’s parking lot and on the grass across the street, a report states.

The bar is near the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center, a privately run prison.

The report notes that police had four calls regarding the business “for the same complaint.” It also notes that officers also had been called there “almost every weekend for large crowds, several cars and loud music.”

The report listed five other police reports regarding other incidents. The report states that the owner, known as “Tee,” has been warned several times. However, she disregarded each warning.

The bar’s capacity is 99 people, but officers saw more than 99 occupants, the report states.

The bar’s liquor license allows the business to be open until 2:30 a.m., but it has been staying open until around 5 a.m., “disturbing the peace,” the report states.

Officers made it “clear to the owner of the next steps forward” that would be taken about the incidents and then went back into service to answer other calls, the report states.

SUNDAY

At 1:44 a.m. Sunday, officers were sitting stationary in their cruisers across the street from Levels Sports Bar because of calls earlier for large crowds and “disturbing the peace,” a second report states.

While officers were “surveying the bar, we heard one loud gunshot go off in the area and were flagged down by a female,” who said her cousin had pointed a weapon at him or her and fired one bullet into the air.

A person, apparently the suspect in the gunfire, was handcuffed and “briefly detained pending officers’ investigation,” the report states.

While speaking with the victim, he or she said he or she did not want to pursue charges against the man and “just wanted to leave the scene and not speak to (name blacked out) anymore.”

Officers identified the people involved and released them, the report states.
