WHAT: Village council meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Sean Schmidt, Kerry Reckard, John Metzinger, Kyle Joynes, Chad Jones, Don Smith and Mayor Ray Lewis

Council:

• Gave second reading to increasing water and sewer rates effective Dec. 1. Water rates will increase from $7.50 to $9.75 per 1,000 gallons and sewer rates from $6.90 to $9.32 per 1,000 gallons. Officials said water rates have not increased since 2017 and the sewer rate since 2021.

• Gave first reading to changes to municipal income tax credit for village residents who pay income tax to municipalities where they work. If someone pays another municipality 2% income tax they would still need to pay the village 1% income tax.

• Announced that because there were four seats open on council and just three people ran in the general election, the new council in January will need to appoint someone to fill the vacant seat.

• Set holiday tree lighting 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the municipal building parking lot and nearby Woodland Park.

• Bob Coupland
