Two arrested in South Side shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — Two people are in jail after being arrested Friday in connection with a shooting on the city’s South Side.

A heavily redacted Youngstown police report does not state exactly when the shooting occurred or where, except that it happened on Compton Lane. The report also does not state how, where or when Aaron Moore and Samantha Milakovich were arrested, other than that the arrests happened Friday.

Court records show they are both charged with one count each of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.

Both appeared in Youngstown Municipal Court by video from the Mahoning County jail on Monday, and Magistrate Meghan Brundege imposed a $100,000 cash or surety bond on each of them. They were ordered to have no contact with the victim if they make bail.

Preliminary hearings are scheduled for both defendants at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

The report states that when the two were arrested, “other officers arrived and assisted in the detainment of Moore and Milakovich.” The report states that police searched a vehicle for a firearm used in the crime, but does not indicate if the weapon was found.

The male victim told police that the two stole his black Chevrolet Equinox. The report states that police found that vehicle, but it is unclear if that is the same vehicle the two were driving when they were arrested.

The report states that multiple officers arrived at the home to find the man lying in front of the door with a gunshot wound.

The man told police he was shot in his kitchen, and the two suspects exited from the back door from that room, then fled in the man’s Equinox. He described the male, allegedly Moore, as black and in his 30s with several tattoos, and said he only knew the woman by a name that the report redacts.

The man was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he was found to be in stable condition.

Moore, 30, was charged with aggravated robbery in 2017. In February of 2018, he pleaded guilty to an amended charge of robbery, a third-degree felony, and a charge of felonious assault was dismissed. Prosecutor Lynn Maro was his defense attorney at the time.

Moore was sentenced to as much as three years of probation, with mandatory drug and alcohol treatment to be included.

Milakovich pleaded guilty in Municipal Court to a drug paraphernalia charge in March, and in 2021, she pleaded guilty to an amended charge of physical control under the influence and driving under suspension. In Mahoning County Boardman Court, she pleaded down a theft charge to disorderly conduct in 2022.

DEAD BODY FOUND

In an unrelated case, a human body was found on the city’s East Side this weekend. Youngstown police confirmed on Monday that a body was found about 3 p.m. Sunday on Nelson Avenue and police are investigating the case as a homicide. The Youngstown police report states only that officers found the body in a ditch and immediately called detectives and the city’s crime lab to the scene.
