Police seek help in Niles hit-skip
NILES — City police are seeking help to find a vehicle involved in a hit-skip crash Saturday evening that left a woman in critical condition.
Police received a call at 8:43 p.m. Saturday to the area of Fifth Street at Indiana for an unresponsive woman lying in a yard. Police determined a person drove off the road and into a yard, struck a shed, continued back into the yard and struck a parked vehicle.
Investigators believe that the woman, who lives in the neighborhood, heard the crash and went outside to investigate. At the same time, the driver was fleeing the scene and struck the woman in the yard.
The woman is in critical condition, according to police.
On their social media page, Niles police said they located at the scene two vehicle parts that include serial numbers. Police believe the suspect vehicle is a later model Ford F-150 uplevel trim model with two-tone black or blue over silver paint. Investigators have gone door-to-door in the area attempting to find any video footage.
Police are asking that anyone with video footage, such as from a doorbell camera or surveillance video, or information to call the police department at 330-652-9944.
Police believe the vehicle has front-end damage and may also be missing the driver’s side mirror.
