ODNR probing drowning at Lake Milton
LAKE MILTON — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is overseeing the investigation of a 19-year old man who drowned after falling into Lake Milton while fishing Friday night.
Milton police Chief Charles Vandyke said the Milton Township Police Department, Berlin Township Fire Department and other safety service agencies responded around 10:30 p.m. Friday of a man having fallen into the water. A boat rescue was activated to search for the man.
He said the Portage County Water Rescue Team from Kent arrived. Along with ODNR and other agencies, they were able to get the man out of the water and attempted CPR and other life-support measures.
Vandyke said the victim, whose identity was not released, was transported to the University Hospitals Portage Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Reports indicate the man was fishing with others at the lake on the dam when they slipped and fell into the water. Reports said the other men were able to get out of the water.
