Nonviolence Week events listed

These are Nonviolence Week events planned for the rest of the week:

• Mingle with Minni fundraiser – 5 p.m. today, Flambeau’s Live, 2308 Market St., on the South Side. Cost is $25 per person at the door. The guest of honor is Minnijean Brown Trickey, 84, one of nine black students who integrated the all-white Central High School in September 1957 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

• Brown Trickey will address two third-grade classes in the Youngstown City School District — one at 1 p.m. today at Harding Elementary School and one at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Volney Rogers Elementary.

• The annual Simeon Booker Award for Courage ceremony — 7 p.m. Tuesday, Tyler History Center downtown. The local award recipients will be the Rev. Gary Koerth and his wife, Cindy Koerth, who launched Glenwood Grounds Cafe. The national recipient will be Jo Ann Bland of Selma, Alabama, a longtime voting and civil rights activist, U.S. Army veteran and advocate for justice. The program is free. A 5:30 p.m. reception will precede the event and is $35 per person.

• Art and poetry reception — 5 p.m. Wednesday, main branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, 305 Wick Ave., near downtown. In addition, the day will include a noon event in Wick Park at which Youngstown Rotary Club members will dedicate a pole to symbolize the need for greater peace.

• Spoken word poetry session — 6 p.m. Thursday, St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave.

• A nonviolence read, panel discussion and luncheon — Noon Friday, YWCA of Youngstown, 25 W. Rayen Ave.

• Art of Emotion gathering — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jewish Community Center of Youngstown for students in kindergarten through grade six.

• A community conversation on the philosophy of nonviolence –1 p.m. Saturday, Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown, 1105 Elm St
