Youngstown woman charged with girlfriend’s killing waives hearing

YOUNGSTOWN — Devyonna L. Taylor, 22, waived her preliminary hearing Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court.

Her murder charge in the Sept. 6 shooting death of her live-in girlfriend, Ahlycia Brown, 22, in their apartment in the 2600 block of Tyrell Avenue on the West Side was bound over to a Mahoning County grand jury.

Taylor remains in the Mahoning County jail in lieu of $1 million bond. She is represented by attorney Aaron Meikle.

Youngstown police called the killing a “domestic homicide.”

When police arrived for the 1:35 a.m. call, they found Brown “shot in the chest unconscious, being held by another female,” the report states. The second female was Taylor.

“When asked if the shooter was still in the apartment, (Taylor) replied no,” the report states.

Capt. Jason Simon of the Youngstown Police Detective Division said the reason Taylor was charged was “after reviewing the available evidence and speaking with (Taylor), we determined that the charge of murder was appropriate.”

Starting at $3.23/week.
