Man re-arrested after making bail

BOARDMAN — A local man managed to get himself arrested twice in the same day and faces a felony charge for domestic abuse.

Boardman police reports state that Branden Lee Pine, 25, of Glenwood Avenue, was arrested on a charge of felony domestic violence for allegedly hitting his pregnant girlfriend in the head. Later that night, after being bailed out, he returned to the house, where police arrested him for trespassing.

Pine was scheduled for arraignment on the trespassing charge and an initial appearance on the felony at 4 p.m. Thursday in Mahoning County Boardman Court.

The first police report states that officers arrived at the home in the 660 block of Glenwood Avenue at around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman met police in the driveway and told them that Pine has been verbally abusive, and it continued into that morning when she tried to talk to him about allegedly hitting her Tuesday evening.

She said that when she raised the issue, he started throwing pens at her from across the room and verbally demeaning her. When she tried to call a friend and her mother to come get her, Pine allegedly turned off service to her phone, which the report states he bought and pays for. The phone was only able to dial 911, so she called for help.

The report states that Pine then turned service back on and ordered the woman to tell police that she was fine.

The woman told police the problem began Tuesday at about 7 p.m. when she woke Pine up with food and he was angry about being woken up too soon. She stated that he called her a bitch, and she thought he was joking so she called him a similarly insulting name, and he then became more verbally abusive. She told police that she turned over in bed to face away from him and Pine then laid back down and swung his arm across the bed, hitting her in the head with a closed fist and continued calling her a bitch.

The report states the woman told police she has had a headache since the incident and was planning to go to the hospital because she’s unsure what it is safe for her to take, given that she is pregnant.

She said she wanted to press charges for domestic violence.

Another report states that at about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police went to the house to let the woman know that Pine had been released on bail. An employee at Boardman Court stated that someone paid a $5,000 cash or surety bond on his behalf.

Police got no answer at the door so they called a friend of the woman, who told them that the woman notified her by text that she heard Pine had been released and was staying at a safe location through Sojourner House.

While they were at the house, Pine approached police and told them he lived there. He stated that he had already been back to the house along with a friend earlier and planned to return home because it appeared that the woman had left and would not be returning.

He was arrested for trespassing. He claimed he was having a panic attack and was taken to St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital for evaluation before being booked again at Mahoning County Jail. Jail records indicate he was released again on Thursday.

Starting at $3.23/week.
