ID of city’s latest victim of homicide is released

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who was shot to death inside her apartment in the 2600 block of Tyrell Avenue on the West Side early Sept. 6 as Ahlycia Brown, 22.

A coroner’s press release states that the coroner’s office was notified of her death at 2:10 a.m. Sept. 6. She was the victim of a shooting, it states.

An autopsy was conducted at the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office, and the matter remains under investigation by the Youngstown Police Department and Coroner’s Office, it adds.

Brown’s live-in girlfriend, Devyonna L. Taylor, 22, was charged with murder in the death and remains in the Mahoning County jail in lieu of $1 million bond, awaiting her preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court.

Youngstown police called the killing a “domestic homicide.”

When police arrived for the 1:35 a.m. call, they found the victim “shot in the chest unconscious, being held by another female,” the report states. The second female was Taylor.

“When asked if the shooter was still in the apartment, (Taylor) replied no,” the report states.

One officer started chest compressions on the victim while another officer started a “chest seal” on the victim, the report adds.

Capt. Jason Simon of the Youngstown Police Detective Division said the reason Taylor was charged was “after reviewing the available evidence and speaking with (Taylor), we determined that the charge of murder was appropriate.”
