YOUNGSTOWN — Adrianne L. Hudson, 32, of Ridgelawn Avenue pleaded guilty Friday to involuntary manslaughter and felony child endangering in the Sept. 29, 2023, drowning death of her cousin’s child in a swimming pool in the backyard of Hudson’s house.

The involuntary manslaughter charge states that Hudson caused the death of Londyn A. Cayson, “the proximate result of Adrianne L. Hudson committing or attempting to commit” felony child endangering.

Mahoning County prosecutors are recommending that Hudson serve eight to 12 years in prison. Her attorneys will argue for less. Her sentencing hearing had not been set as of Friday morning. But Sweeney was trying to schedule it as soon as possible to accommodate family members of the child who were planning to come to Youngstown for the trial that was set for Monday but will not be needed now.

The felony child endangering charge states Hudson “did create a substantial risk to the health or safety” of Londyn by violating “a duty of care, protection, or support” in violation of Ohio law. London was about 20 months old.

Hudson appeared before Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge Maureen Sweeney Friday and entered the guilty pleas, along with her two attorneys, Tom Zena and Lou DeFabio. Hudson will be sentenced after a presentence investigation of Hudson’s criminal history and background is completed.

According to a Youngstown police report, Hudson was watching Londyn when she realized the child was gone. Hudson said Londyn and another child were playing in the front yard as she was talking to another relative.

“She stated that after talking for a few minutes, they noticed that (Londyn) was missing. They went around the back of the house and found her floating in the pool,” the report states.

“She advised that about five minutes elapsed between when she saw (Londyn) playing and when they found her floating in the pool.” An ambulance took the child to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Officers learned later that the child died.

A juvenile advised police he had driven up to the home on Ridgelawn Avenue and saw the two toddlers playing in the front yard. He said he was talking to Adrianne Hudson for about five minutes when he realized one of the two children was missing.

He went around the house and saw what he thought was a baby doll in the pool. When he looked closer, he saw that it was a child and pulled her out of the water.
