Police do not suspect foul play in death of man outside of business

YOUNGSTOWN — The body of a man was found at 1:20 a.m. Thursday near the B&O Station, 530 Mahoning Ave. The business is at the corner of Mahoning Avenue and Oak Hill Avenue near downtown.

When officers arrived, they found the body of a man lying on his side with his face and chest downward on the sidewalk in front of the business, a police report states. Officers presumed the man was deceased. He was cold to the touch and stiff.

An officer spoke with the woman who reported finding the body. She said she was there to use the portable toilet when she noticed what she thought was a black bag. When she walked closer she saw that it was a man.

She touched his forehead, which was cold, and his body was stiff, she said. She called 911 right away. She said officers arrived within minutes of her 911 call, the report states.

When ambulance personnel arrived, they determined that he had no heart activity and called for the coroner. Officers obtained the woman’s identification and let her leave. A coroner’s office investigator and police department crime lab officer arrived to investigate.

The report states that officers at the scene suspected that they knew who the man was, but they were not certain.

Capt. Jason Simon of the detective division, who was at the scene, said police do not suspect foul play in the man’s death.
