Man, woman found in car stolen at gunpoint
YOUNGSTOWN — Police arrested a man and woman after they were found using a 2008 Cadillac STX Friday that a man reported stolen in a carjacking on Oct. 8, 2024.
Youngstown police reported that officers were southbound on Market Street when the driver of a 2008 burgundy Cadillac SXT “tried to run the red light, but turned at the same time this happened.” There was no time of day listed in the report.
The officer tried to make a traffic stop with emergency lights activated, but the driver, Geraldo Morales-Vega, 37, did not stop, the report states. The officer activated his sirens, and Morales stopped the vehicle. A woman also was in the Cadillac. The officer pulled Morales out of the car, and Morales said he had no driver’s license.
As of Monday afternoon, Morales was charged in Youngstown Municipal Court with not having a valid license and not displaying license plates or a valid license plate sticker. He was arraigned Monday morning.
First the woman told the officer that she bought the car and Morales was her “driver.” Later she said she was test driving the car and Morales was her mechanic. She had no charges on file in Youngstown Municipal Court as of Monday afternoon.
The officer got Morales’ social security number and discovered that he had no driver’s license and had an active warrant for a probation violation, the report states. He also had a warrant out of Puerto Rico.
The officer got the vehicle identification number off of the Cadillac, and it came back as stolen from a woman in Warren. When the officer told Morales and the woman that information, she said she bought it for a $125 down payment and did not get a receipt or change the title to her name.
Morales was taken to the Mahoning County jail, the report states. Neither person could provide police with a key to the car.
The report states that the Cadillac was reported stolen at gunpoint by a man in the 400 block of West Judson Avenue on the South Side late Oct. 8, 2024.
The man said he backed the Cadillac into his driveway. As soon as he opened the car door, two “males” approached and told him to give them everything. He gave them about $200 in cash and ran onto his front porch. The suspects got into the front of the car and fled in it. He said he could not give any identifying information of the suspects, the report noted.
