Man arrested after ex-girlfriend says he would not let her out of car

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — Boardman police arrested Caden Moffo, 20, of Beechwood Drive in Boardman, and took him to the Mahoning County jail Monday after police said he drove off with his ex-girlfriend in his car against her will early Sunday.

No new charges were on file for Moffo Wednesday morning in Youngstown Municipal Court online records, but Moffo is charged in Mahoning County Area Court in Boardman.

The woman told Youngstown police at noon Monday that at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, she and her friends were in the area of Commerce Avenue and Phelps Street downtown after attending the Italian Festival when she realized Moffo, her ex-boyfriend, was nearby.

Earlier in the evening, Moffo pleaded with her and threatened her via text messages to get her to speak with him, a Youngstown police report states. She eventually agreed to speak to him in a parking lot at Commerce and Phelps downtown.

Her friends stood by while she and Moffo were in the car, the report states. After a short time, she tried to leave the car because Moffo was becoming aggressive and had a gun in the car, she stated.

When she opened the car door to leave, he pushed on the gas and left the parking lot with her as she pleaded with him to let her out, the report states. She said Moffo would occasionally point the gun at her and threaten her while driving to his home in Boardman.

When Moffo drove to his house, Boardman police took Moffo into custody, charging him with two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence for throwing bleach on her and striking her. The charges related to offenses that took place at the Beechwood address, the Youngstown police report states.

Moffo was arraigned on the charges Monday in Mahoning County Area Court in Boardman and is set to return for a second hearing at 9 a.m. Sept. 2. according to online court records.

BOARDMAN PD REPORT

The report from Boardman police states that officers arrived at the Beechwood Drive home about 1 a.m. Sunday after the woman’s friend called to say Moffo had assaulted her. She said Moffo poured bleach on her and held a gun to her head.

Moffo also called police at about the same time and said that a friend of his, who had picked up Moffo’s girlfriend, was intoxicated and driving a Hyundai Elantra. During the call, the dispatcher heard a woman say to Moffo, “you held a gun to my head.”

The report states the woman told police she only got into the car with Moffo at a house in Austintown because he promised he just wanted to talk briefly and would let her return to her friends afterward.

She told police that once he drove off, she had to wait until they arrived at his house or she would have had to jump out of a moving vehicle. Once they arrived at the house, he kept pulling the gun out of his waistband and threatening to kill her and himself. She stated that he fired one round into the street, and it sounded “softer” than she thought a gunshot should have.

The report states she told police Moffo repeatedly dragged her down and held the gun to her head in the street and poured a cup of bleach on her neck before she was able to escape into the house.

She stated that Moffo’s sister gave her a change of clothes.

After police arrived, they determined the gun to be a BB gun that resembled a Glock handgun.
