Man allegedly solicits teen at Boardman Plaza
BOARDMAN — A teenage boy was sexually propositioned by a man at the Boardman Plaza.
The Boardman police report states that a woman called police to report that her son was solicited when he offered to help an older man with his shopping cart at Save-A-Lot.
The boy told his mother that he saw the man in the parking lot at around 3 p.m. and offered to help him. The man responded by allegedly saying “I’m staying at the Wagon Wheel Motel, and I’ll pay you to come see me. I bet you have a nice [expletive]. Come here and let me see it.”
The boy told the man no and went in to report the incident to store employees. The report states that Save-A-Lot employees told the boy they have had problems with the man in the past and warned the boy to stay away from him.
The boy described the man as a skinny white man in his 60s with long gray hair and facial hair, and yellow teeth. The report states that the boy identified the man’s car when his mother took him to the motel. It is described as a blue 2001 Buick LeSabre.
When the boy’s mother picked him up from the Southern Park Mall about an hour later, he told her what happened and she went right to the motel where the boy spotted the car. The woman then called police and waited for them.
The report states that motel staff verified the man’s identity and told police what room he was staying in. Police confronted the man in his room and he admitted to being at Save-A-Lot but denied that the encounter with the boy ever happened.
The woman stated that she wanted to pursue criminal charges against him and the report states that a Boardman detective will follow up on the case.
