Juvenile girl arrested Friday in Boardman carjacking

BOARDMAN — A girl was arrested in connection with a Friday morning carjacking in the parking lot of a local business.

A Boardman police report states that two men were forced out of a car at gunpoint while they sat in the parking lot at Dunkin’ on Market Street during their lunch break.

The report states that the incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. Friday and was reported to police at the station around 4:30 a.m. The report states that the two Walmart employees were sitting in the parking lot eating fast food when three black males wearing hoodies and black ski masks approached them and banged on the window with a gun.

The report states the robbers demanded the men’s wallets, then ordered them out of the car, a black 2018 Nissan Sentra. After momentarily considering backing up and driving off, the men said they decided to comply and got out. They stated that the robbers screamed at them to give up their phones and the keys to the car. All three robbers got in the Nissan and fled north toward Youngstown.

The men told police they walked back to Walmart to get the other man’s car and drove to the Boardman police station to report the incident.

The men reported that there were several valuable belongings in the car, including a guitar, a MacBook laptop, an iPhone, Beats headphones and other items of personal importance.

Boardman immediately put out a “Be On the Lookout” order.

A Youngstown police report states that one officer on duty that morning received the report via Youngstown dispatch at about 5 a.m. and searched the area for the car. The report states that he found it parked in the driveway of 518 E. Dewey Ave. with several people still seated in the car. That home is owned by DA4 Properties LLC of Akron, which owns multiple properties in Youngstown.

The Youngstown report states the officer pulled into the driveway behind the car and ordered them out at gunpoint. The driver backed the car up, then went forward onto the road, and headed west on Dewey.

The officer reported he pursued them, and the chase reached 75 mph before they came to a stop at West Dewey Avenue and Hillman Street, and the four occupants got out and fled. One was caught.

The report states the juvenile girl refused to identify herself or provide her age, and behaved as if she thought the situation was amusing.

Eventually, police clerks identified her and police called her mother to pick her up after charging her with obstruction of justice and a curfew violation, both misdemeanors.

The Boardman police report states that police found multiple items in the car they suspect belonged to the robbers, including multiple soda bottles and a lighter.

The report states that these were tested for fingerprints and DNA, and fingerprints were found elsewhere in the vehicle and collected as evidence.
