22-year-old pleads in city assault case

YOUNGSTOWN — Isaac Bethel, 22, pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of felonious assault and one count of improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation and got a defense and prosecution recommendation of six to seven-and-a-half years in prison.

He will be sentenced Sept. 10.

Bethel fired a gun into a car on Hudson Avenue on the South Side about 6 p.m. Feb. 26 that contained two people, one of whom was injured. The injury was not a gunshot wound.

A Youngstown police report states that when officers arrived, they found the victim sitting on the front porch steps, and he was taken to the hospital.

He said Bethel shot him and that said Bethel lived nearby. Officers later found Bethel at Mistletoe and Glenwood avenues not far away and took him into custody, the report states.

When Bethel was charged with a traffic offense in 2023, he had an address on Hudson Avenue, according to court records.

Starting at $3.23/week.
