Youngstown leaders to announce downtown safety plan
YOUNGSTOWN — City officials today will announce a downtown safety action plan.
The plan “is the result of the administration’s continued conversations with downtown business owners and patrons, and continued priorities and investment in the downtown corridor,” the statement read.
It added: “The plan will focus on the enforcement of public safety ordinance related to occupancy, loitering, underage drinking and nuisance abatement to help ensure the downtown corridor remains a safe and vibrant area for residents, businesses and visitors.”
The announcement will be made at 9:30 a.m. at the downtown Phelps Street Gateway on the corner of North Phelps and West Commerce streets.
Joining Mayor Jamael Tito Brown at the announcement will be police Chief Carl Davis; fire Chief Barry Finley; Law Director Lori Shells Simmons; Michael Durkin, code enforcement and blight remediation superintendent; and Councilman Julius Oliver, D-1st Ward, whose ward includes downtown.
