Wanted man arrested in traffic stop in Boardman

BOARDMAN — A traffic stop yielded the arrest of a wanted man on Friday.

A Boardman police report states that an officer parked near the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Indianola Avenue spotted a vehicle driven by William Dwayne Clark Porter III.

Police records showed that Porter, 30, of Old Oxford Lane, had five active warrants for his arrest — discharging a weapon into a habitation, a second-degree felony, two counts of endangering children, and two counts of aggravated menacing, all first-degree misdemeanors.

The report states that the officer followed Porter but also called for backup before initiating a traffic stop because of the severity of Porter’s criminal record.

He was pulled over in the parking lot of Rise Pies on U.S. 224. He was arrested without incident, charged with driving under suspension and taken to Mahoning County Jail.

He appeared Tuesday in Mahoning County Boardman Court, where he pleaded not guilty and Judge Joseph Houser imposed a $2,500 bond. Online records show that he remains in jail as of Tuesday evening.

In January 2020, Porter was charged with burglary after a woman who knew him saw him via security camera inside her home. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals at his home a few days later. In 2021, the burglary charge was reduced from a second-degree felony to a third-degree and he was found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison.

The warrant charges cited in the Boardman police report — discharging a weapon into a habitation and aggravated menacing — stem from incidents in Youngstown in May.

In 2024, a burglary charge and three separate charges of domestic violence against him were all dismissed.

He was found guilty of misdemeanor assault in 2016 and sentenced to 29 days of time served. In 2018, he was found guilty of drug possession,

A 2015 aggravated menacing charge out of Boardman was pleaded down to disorderly conduct and he received a 30-day suspended sentence.
